Happy [Weekend] + Friday Links [No.Twelve]

Happy Weekend May 15 2015 / Renae Smith

Happy Weekend! I hope that you have had a great week? The weather has been consistently good in London this week (although we won't talk about yesterday) and summer feels closer every day. It's been a pretty inspiring week coming off feeling pretty uninspired lately.

To be honest, I've been struggling, feeling uninspired about my work and photography altogether. I've been constantly thinking about how I progress further with my photography, letting that internal dialogue swirl around in my head, and be at the forefront of every moment. It can be a good dialogue to have, obviously, when pursuing your own passion, however it can also be exhausting. If it's not healthily balanced with positive thoughts and firm decisions to move forward, it becomes indecision, I spin my wheels and go nowhere. I also feel as though I'm always trying to get to the next point without really enjoying or celebrating how far I have come or the successes (however small) I've already had.

So I finally decided to just let it be for awhile. I decided to acknowledge where I was in my work, accept it, and then step back from it.

It felt so good.

I embraced more of the uncomfortable. I met new people, celebrated another exciting stage of a venture with new friends, and opened up to a new friend who inspires me with her beautiful work - grateful for her encouragement. I also had an open and honest discussion with an old friend who I admire and respect, about the challenging side to creating your own path. It may not sound like much, but I know I wouldn't have appreciated any of these moments or opened up as much as I did if I hadn't first decided to step back from my own work and let go. I'm feeling more inspired and am continuing to make better decisions about how I approach my work - it's a work in progress!

It's a sunny evening here so I'm going to call it day now, head outside and kick off the weekend in the sunshine. What do you have planned for this weekend? I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you are up to, filled with wonderful people and inspiring moments.
